Seven Sisters and Birling Gap

A FANTASTIC BLAST OF FRESH AIR FOR ALL THE FAMILY…!

The trip takes us across Seaford Bay, passing Seaford Head before reaching the Coastguard Cottages at Cuckmere Haven. We’ll then continue along the Sussex Heritage Coast towards Birling Gap and the Belle Toute Lighthouse.

Once there, we’ll head south to catch a glimpse of the famous Beachy Head Lighthouse a little further along the coast. It lies approximately seven miles to the east of Newhaven Port.

We’ll then venture back towards the southwest so we can see the Seven Sisters in all of their splendour, stopping to take plenty of photos en route. In the summer months, we have regular sightings of Harbour Porpoise and Grey Seals. It’s even been known for us to see both Bottlenose and Common Dolphins albeit this is extremely extremely rare making it even more special when we do. This winter, Hump Back Whales were spotted transitting the area which took us all by surprise. Incredible.

We’ll cruise west to Newhaven from there and be back alongside before you know it.

The Seven Sisters rival even the White Cliffs of Dover for ivory clarity. The constant crashing of the ocean waves at their base is causing them to fall piece-by-piece back into the ocean.

The cliffs are known as the Seven Sisters due to the seven distinct hilltops that comprise their silhouette. The bright white colour of the stone is thanks to the abundance of chalk that makes up the majority of the cliff face.
